I'm wondering why the OP picked on Efim Geller & not Mikhail Tal or one of the many other great chess players who smoked. Tal chain smoked & drank his way to a World Championship while producing some of the most exciting chess of the 20th century. So what has Geller done to be singled out among all the other great players??
Efim Geller was a brute

I have to agree with BlackChrysler, I just did a quick Google on Geller & my respect is rising by the minute. He has a very impressive record not only against Fischer but all the great players of his era.

OP is a troll...why are you responding to him?
For me its more about defending Geller, if OP is going to publically defame someone sometimes it deserves a response

Just try not to give the OP too much attention in the process of defending Geller, as other members may get jealous and start calling him a troll.

I was in a simultaneous exhibition that he gave in a hotel.
He looked like one of those Al Capone gangsters in the American films.
Geller is one of my favorite players. I very much admire his blend of sound strategy and marvelous tactical alertness. Geller deserves credit along with players like Bronstein, Tal, and, of course, the immortal Bobby Fischer for sharpening up the style of grandmaster chess.

Read the OP's threads from his profile activity...then come back and try to convince us he's not a troll. I realize you want to protect your/your friend's sockpuppets ;), but...it's beyond obvious.

Man, you have issues. Ever hear of psychological projection ?
Keep dancing, Mr. September 11th...maybe you should have stuck with the viking account.
It's just projection, by the way...no need for a qualifier.

This is the Viking account. I changed my username. That's an option if someone wishes to choose it. Stay in denial, it suits you. You can call me a troll too if it makes you happy.

You should see the look on my opponents faces when I pull my snuff box out, take a little dab of fine tobacco, and snort that sweet leaf up my nose. Oh, nicotaina tabacum, I love you.

Well, it does double your average account longevity, I guess.

Hahaha, I'm such a bad person compared to squeaky clean you :)
Nobody's saying that...but the characterization does seem to fall into the typical "but trolling isn't so wrong, is it?" mindset. Pretty similar to the "we're not bullying that kid...it's all in fun" point of view.
To which the answer is: no, it's not the worst moral transgression in the world...more annoying and pointless ;). Trolling in general ala the OP, I mean.

I had the extreme luck to attend some of Geller's sessions when he was the coach of the Greek National team, and I do not think I have ever met another guy with so VAST knowledge about chess. Most of his openings' ideas are very valid, decades after he invented them.
During the sessions, ten out of twelve attendants were smoking... :P
Hey, when you met him, what did he say to you?
In the last tournaments I played in, I'd be sure to make the game last well over an hour. At about 45 minutes, the smokers would start to freak out and run outside to catch a smoke. It doesn't always lead to a win, but it is amusing.
