Einstein called chess a waste of time, what do you think?
Perhaps he was a sort of a pacifist type who thought chess was too war- like or maybe he disliked the interactions between the chess pieces.
Theory of Relativity is THE waste of Time.
You better never use GPS then.
1) so, you agree that Einstein's theory has no other use except it's alleged use in GPS?
2) about it's alleged use in GPS: there is no need of Einstein's theory or even satellites for GPS. US was running LORAN without satellites or relativity. For about half a century, US used ground towers(like cell phone towers) for their LORAN. US then released this LORAN for general public with a name change(calling it GPS). Lot of lies are peddled by authorities about this sort of technologies because they have a military use as well.
3) Relativity is just a time pass theory with no real use(assuming it is correct). Relativity has mind-bending ideas like time dilation, space contraction ...etc. So, it provides a nice playing field for all theoretical physicists to come up with imaginative theories. Most of such theories have their origin in Relativity.
4) Einstein put down chess because then chess world champion Laskar was opposing and refuting Einstein's Relativity theory.
5) I congratulate you for managing to post without abusing me but since you are incapable of discussion without abusing your opponets, I think this will be my last reply to you on this topic.
LORAN was extremely limited and had nowhere nearly as much use as GPS. If it did, then we wouldn't have switched to GPS in the first place, Also, the theory of relativity has plenty of uses. Anything that involves astronomy and fast travel uses relativity. Also, the intersection of the theory of relativity with quantum field theory creates more applications as well.
Germany lost before Japan
without the atomic bombs being dropped on Japan, they would have continued fighting to the death ........... and in that time much more American lives would have been lost.
The Japanese military considered Hiroshima and Nagasaki just more bombed out cities of which they already had plenty. They only surrendered after the Soviets defeated them in Mongolia. The bombings didn't help, but that wasn't the reason Japan surrendered. The US dropped atomic bombs mainly to flex military might to the Soviets. I ain't saying it's right or wrong, just reality.
I think you are underplaying it just a bit. An attack on the homeland killing over 200,000 of 70M people. They lost more than 1/4 of 1% of their entire population (.28%) In pearl harbor we lost 2400 people (mostly military) For scale, In 9/11 we lost 3,000 people of 280M, 1/1000th of a percent (.00107%). It had quite the impact on the community.
No one is underplaying anything. The claim is that the bombs weren't a motivation for Japan to surrender. And this is indeed true. It has nothing to do with how much population they lost. If you know anything about Japanese culture, then you know the Emperor would have simply kept fighting until the entire population died. Atomic bombs weren't going to make them surrender.

Chess is not a waste of time. I can't be having sex, doing BBQ, racing ultralights, playing baroque music and performing private investigation all my time, I need an outlet.
As far as expanding one’s intellect and cognitive abilities? Yes a giant waste of time.
as far as providing entertainment? Not a waste of time

Debatable.

Not debatable. True. End of discussion
