Emotes during play, really?

Can we get rid of the obnoxious emotes? Maybe if you confirm your age is < 16 they should be allowed.

Like, it's only there for mocking. There should be an option to allow chat (during games) without emotes, perhaps.

Thanks!

I agree. I can see a place for them if you are playing with friends, but playing with random matches they are just used for trolling, or far, far worse. Someone sent me 6 skulls after I resigned the other day. Are you telling me that isn't an illegal threat?

Wow - that's so lame. You should report them, and chess.com should give them a warning. And let you know they did so. If I report someone for rude behavior, the site says "thanks" or something, but I never hear the result.

So you only want people younger than 16 to use them?

My point is that they are totally unnecessary on a chess site (but maybe fun for kids? - semi-sarcastically)

Do you use the chat function during a match at all? If not then why not just turn it off? The vast majority of my matches have zero communication. That's the only respectful way to play Chess apart from perhaps offering a handshake after being defeated. Perhaps the communication mode we want is to enable chat only after the match and only have the handshake emoticon available.

You're probably right, I almost never use it. But I feel like I don't want to disable it entirely. I might want to say something once in a while, and ofc I don't mind friendly comments. So, just ban emotes XD

I don't troll, but I like trolling. It's kind of reverse psychology. He tries to troll me, I ignore him or laugh at him, he gets angry and I win.
