Have ever been in a tournament final or just a very important round were a win would get you 1st 2nd or 3rd place during the game  after sometime your winning terribley (it's clear to both playing thatt your gonna win) your pretty good on time (say like 9mins left)  not to mention if you win you break 2200 and your now a master!!! Your opponent say's they resign but doesn't feel like going to the lobby so you suggest lett's just play it cause you know yourself how boring the lobby can be and BBBBOOOOOOOMMMMM your cell phone goes  off and TD official hear's it and violate's you by deducting 10 min BUT Wait you only have 9 left so he tell's you that mean's you lose and the other person your were playing walks out the playing hall with a big trophy sayinh 1st place or somethin like that what would your first reaction be.

There are two issues here. One is the responsibility of turning off one's cell phone. There is a reason this rule is in effect, and it NEVER happens at a good time (or so it seems). If you forget to turn it off, be prepared for the consequences. The second is that your opponent had resigned. If so, why not sign the scoresheets and then continue the game?

If the mind was an ocean, there would be many waves, waves of thought, feeling, emotion, ideas, perceptions, sensations, etc. Many waves.

In the UK, you immediately forfeit the game if your phone makes any sort of noise whatsoever. (Presumably you would also forfeit if some indication was made your phone was still on during the match.) It's surprising that a similar rule is not in effect in the US.

 thank god there isn't here

I find that to be an interesting response. Seems that you find no responsibility at all in ignoring the disturbance a ringing cellphone has on all other players in the room. I would suggest that you take a peek outside your own ego for a second and realize that your lack of respect for your fellow players warrants any penalty that might be assessed.

kco

quickly put the phone in someone else pocket.

This is a what if  question and to be extra sure I don't even bring my phone with me into the playing hall I leave it with my mom.

As far as I know the rule here in NL is also (as in the UK) that you loose immediately when your phone rings.

But IF there is a time penalty, time is ADDED to your opponents clock I think. Never subtracted.
