En Passant Checkmate against Magnus Carlsen OR $100,000?

umm even if I defeat Magnus, people will say- "Magnus is a legend. It was just that he was playing bad. There is nothing special about you."

So I prefer the 100kwink.png

I would without question choose the En Passant Checkmate, itz just too good to be true

You don't get anything for it. Your brief little ego boost to yourself, that nobody cares about, is worth $100,000 to you? That's insane.

money doesn't buy happiness, im not trying to get 100k to spend on stuff to make me happy, im simpy trying to enjoy life to itz fullest

If I can buy something that makes me happy (Chess.com memebership) I think money does buy happiness, but I get your point of view.

100k?? I’d take $10

It depends...

If you mean "you're good enough to beat Carlsen at least 1 in 10 games, and one of the games happens to be en passant"

Then... probably I'd just take the money, because that's about 400 rating points below Carlsen which isn't worth as much as the money tongue.png

So the new question you're asking me is essentially:

"Would you rather be given 100,000 directly, or would you rather have something that you can sell for more than that?"

Well obviously I would take the thing worth more. That's a pretty silly question, so let's get back to the original question.

First of all, beating Carlsen is not worth $100,000 and the en passant checkmate doesn't come close to changing that.

Secondly, any fame and glory of the feat is hollow if the win was due to some magical "make a choice and it will come true" scenario.

So if it's not worth as much money, and if the fame/glory is ornamental, then why would I ever choose the checkmate? That's my thought process.

My dream come true , 🤩 just. The chance to play Magnus ,would far exceed 100,000 lol,, but then actually beating him with en passant mate . Holy crap ,, priceless!!

Beating the world champion by checkmate is a dream that I would pay 100 000 dollars to accomplish.

It's not the win, it's what the win represents... which is the skill gained through hard work.

If I paid Carlsen $100 to let me win it would be meaningless.

beating Magnus doesn't prove anything

this is what I call thinking outside the box

you get an A+!

I mean... no one gave me a box to think outside of, so how can I think outside of the box?

lol

My question was not silly; all I'm saying is that:

Would you rather have money given to you directly OR be famous because you beat Magnus Carlsen?

The fact that you became famous by beating the world chess champion might give you the 100000 dollars.

My choice would be beating Magnus with En Passant.

I choose $100k
