En passant comes up all the time it's hardly a rarity.

very much agree with jengaias (what do you know we DO agree on some things)...
the en passant is just a move. and like other moves, sometimes it is good and other times it is not.
it is not a test or decoy.
play it only if does good things for your position.

How often does 'en passant' actually pop up in games? I am just back in the game but I played in a OTB tournament this last weekend as an unrated player just for the experience. In my first two games my opponents each tried me on the rule, I took the pawns (lost the games:-)) which improved my position. I got the feeling I was being tested but maybe it happens more than I think, or maybe they use it as a decoy?
