What's the best book for endgame study from the up to 2300 level??

My endgame is atrocious, and except for using common sense and some knowledge of rook and pawn endgames I need help studying endgames.

Should I focus on the endgames that comes out of the openings I play first before just going into general rook endgames (I heard the 2 v 3 pawn structure in sicilian endgames is very important especially for sicilian players).

SO which books or chess video series do you recommend for endgame improvement to master level. I heard good things about doveretsky books.

Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual seems to be a common choice for higher rated players. Averbakh's endgame collection (Comprehensive Chess Endings) is supposed to be very good too.

I'm sure there are some other choices for higher rated players that are already strong in most of the more basic ones.

Those are good books to start with.

I like Silman's book. Doesn't cover as much as other books and targeted more at the sub 2000 level, but very readable.

By endgames out of the openings do you mean like 30 moves of theory that extend into an endgame (thee pieces per side)?

Dvortesky's Endgame Manual, School of Future Champions series (three is dedicated to endgames but four and others have endgame positions too) and School of Chess Excellence volume 1 and the second part of volume 3 are great, but CCE and ECE volumes are great for intense specialized study.

As for strategic endgames go with Endgame Strategy and How to Play Chess Endgames.

"... I'm convinced that Silman's book will take its place in history as one of the most popular endgame books ever. It has already caught on with the average player in a big way, confirming Silman's status as the king of instructional writers. He writes in a clear and casual style, and time and again has shown the ability to reach those who feel intimidated by the lofty approach that a grandmaster will often take. ..." - IM John Warson (2007)

I would recommend Dvoretsky's endgame manual for strong ( 2000 and above ) players but not for below 2000 .  For them I would recommend an old book by Keres : Practical Chess Endings as I found this book very helpful for me working my way up through the classes ....
