Enlighten Me Please!

The point is many:
You can learn (like a puzzle), or you can start evaluating how people react, and what they do.

Here's an excellent example-
I am currently playing a game where I was ahead two pawns, I decided to play conservatively, and pulled back from my attack...I did not forsee his next move, which forced me in a position in which he could check my King and take my bishop, with a clear chance for mate...I was depressed for two days while thinking about what I missed, and contemplated resigning...on the third day I played the best move I saw in this position, and waited for him to put the hammer down (then I would have resigned)...low and behold he did not see the fork...and four moves later I am now ahead by two pawns and a bishop...and I will finish this guy off easily...
...because we see, it does not follow that the other party sees...

indeed
To anyone who plays forever in the hope of stalemate or divine intervention: I will goof around doing stupid stuff until I mate you with a few seconds left. Enjoy!

When should one resign? I guess it is up to the individual. I've had opponents drag out endings a queen down and others who resigned down 2 pawns. Is there an accepted protocol? I don't know. It is a courtesy, but one doesn't want to abandon a playable position either.

yeah ive adopted this policy as well after I started this thread...childish? yes, but if they have the right not to resign, I have the right to do whatever I want with the position:-)

The thing is a mind game. On the positive and truthful side: I used to resign when I thought I was going to lose. When I began to play them out, I got stronger in the end game.
Chess has three known stages; beginning game, middle game, and end game. My end game was weak, and because I started to play them out, it got stronger and became less of a weakness.
If you are at a level where you are wondering what the deal is with certain reasonsings behind the game - fall back on the principles and relieve your mind -the game isnt over until checkmate; or until the opponent resigns.
You're right, it was a variation on the "just another resign thread" theme. It was more a whiney, "why don't my opponents bow down in front of me I am invincible and all powerful" or "we need a force my opponent to resign button" threads intended as tongue in cheek humor.
Well sorry I don't find it entertaining. If you're winning, win. If you can't win, maybe you were not winning (clue phone is ringing, better go answer it).
