Idk im 490 rating and 1800 puzzles. so I don't think puzzle rating has a significant relationship to real rating

the_tactical_tactician

You have a good point, because I kind of wanted to know if a puzzle rating of 2000 was average for a 1200

I’d say 2000 puzzles rating is solid and respectable at 1200 level of play.

I am 2400 rated puzzles and 1300 rapid.

Are you able to employ the tactics you are recognizing?

i am 2300 in puzzles and stuck in 750 rapid since last june

the_tactical_tactician

1057 blitz, 2367 puzzle rating.

1949 rapid, 2754 puzzle

The correlation is EXTREMELY weak. It might not even be a moderate correlation(r~.5). I know 1200's who are 3k in puzzles. I know 2,000's that are 2500 in puzzles.

To be honest chess.com puzzles are not very accurate to real game situations, they are much more abstractly "pattern-y" and contrived. They are really good for building up pattern recognition, but you need to also work on your calculation skills, and you also need to work on your "critical moment radar", which chess.com puzzles don't help you with at all.

I just realized: OP said estimated rating. Sometimes the game review’s rating estimator over estimates as high as your puzzle rating.

I am 1100 rapid, my puzzle rating in 3800. I sometimes struggle solving puzzles rated 1300-1999 I spent most of my time solving puzzles in 2000-3000+. Even if your rating is 3000+ you might want to go back to lower rated puzzles because you may get them wrong.

puzzle pb of 5000 with bullet, blitz & rapid pbs of about 2000 here... currently working on improving my survival rush pb from 74 to 80. 😁

until you start solving in the 3000-4000 range, you're still throwing haymakers & aren't really boxing, guys.

Someone did the statics comparing these. I don’t remember the link. But if I am remembering correctly I believe puzzles are on average about 800 points higher than your blitz rating. Surprisingly blitz has a better correlation with FIDE and USCF ratings than rapid. So if your puzzle rating is more than 800 points higher than your blitz rating your next chess books should be the two volume manual of positional chess, my system, or at least an entry level book like Silman’s strategy book or the chess bible visual book. If your puzzle rating is only like 1800 but your blitz is 1400 then your actually worse at tactics for your rating level in comparison to the average player. Then you should probably work on being able to better visualize the board and basic tactics next. Lev Alburts comprehensive chess corse books are fantastic, but the tactics for tournament players should be the next read if your puzzles are only a couple hundred points higher than your blitz rating.

my old account had 2500 puzzles. 1400 rapid

What puzzle rating would people be by default(100-1200)? Is a 1200 player in chess , 1700 in puzzles, or higher/lower…?

Yeah, I also wanted to know the same thing as you. I have an elo of almost 1200 in rapid, 1120 in blitz and 1050 in bullet. In puzzles, I have a rating of 1900! I thought I am doing great in puzzles but after knowing that this is just above average I'm surprised!!

In your case, your difference is +700. That isn't exceptional at all. For anyone who is willing to spend time and calculate, +1000 is normal.

Oh wow! I didn't knew that. Thanks for your reply

the puzzles are rated up to 4000 difficulty, so one's puzzle rating should be seen as relative to that, rather than compared with other ones.
