There's a chef in New Jersey named Joey Meatballs. He's known for his balls.         Don't freak out, don't freak out!

LesuhAn

Ronald, you were dropped on your head as a child, weren't you? ;)

RonaldJosephCote

Actually yes, but if Mr Jablonski's was humorous, we could call him funny bone Jablonski!

LesuhAn

:D

Then there's Johnny 2 times. Because he says everything twice. Because he says everything twice. And Joey Bag Of Donuts allways has an aliby. Whenever the crime went down, Joey was out getting a bag of donuts.

LesuhAn

Interesting group of friends you have. :/

What just happened here?? LesuhAn posted a non-rhetorical, non-trolling question; most people responded with considered and articulate answers; ethics were discussed with almost no self-righteousness or denigration of others; and there was a general defense of ethical behavior. What are the Chess.com forums coming to?! Can we please go back to insulting opponents who waste our time by not resigning when we think they should in 3/0 games?

RonaldJosephCote

hahahahaa    "can we please get back to insulting people".    Ok, you suck.  You want a 2nd opinion, your ugly too!Cool

LesuhAn

Change is a coming...

LesuhAn

Aw, shoot! Change is slow!!!

Benzodiazepine
Tracking turned off!
RonaldJosephCote

That's right, get out of here. Go take your drugs. We don't want drug infested hippies in the forums. TRACKING TURNED OFF.  The same goes for your mother. We might insult people now and then, but we have ethics. So up your nose with a rubber hose buddy.

LesuhAn

Since Benzodiazepine left so abruptly, those who feel the need to ridicule others have the perfect target. He'll never know!

LesuhAn

Ooh, post crossed. Oh, I see you've already started. Averts eyes.

@RonaldJosephCote

Sigh of relief. Thanks for saving the thread.

May I make a suggestion-- First -- names are personal and while there may be humor in some names -- let's agree to the following -- no humor about anyones name in the group. -- They may not like it. let's keep the group discussion to the thread listed. If we want a threat about funny names and profession let's create a threat o that themes. People who enjoy that kind of humor can go there. But even there I would suggest that no personal -"group" member names are used. There is no faster way to destroy a group than just kidding --Furthermore -- members form other countries just see "kidding" as rude since that form of humor does not exist. I know that when I first came to the US -- I spend a lot of time crying -- because people were kidding me to make me feel welcome and included but I felt insulted. I now know better and enjoy kidding -- but mostly about things --I still remember my experience.

Just my 2 cents -- or that $2.00 with inflation :)

LesuhAn

Renate, I agree with you. I just want to make sure you know that this was posted in the general chess.com forum not within Chess Castle.

I think that the intent to manipulate one's rating in order to play in a ratings limited tournament is ethically suspect, whether one does so by purposely losing games or by selecting what games one plays (i.e., only playing opponents likely to beat you).  My rule of thumb for judging whether an action is moral or ethical is to act yourself (1) whether you would condone the behavior in others (i.e., if someone else engaged in the conduct, would you be bothered or irritated if it affected you?) and (2) whether you would be embarrassed if your mother or the public knew that you had engaged in your conduct (and your intent in taking the action).  If you honestly answer the first question with yes and the second question with no, then the action may be ethical.  However, if you are unable to answer those questions yes and no respectively, then it is likely that your conscience perceives the action as unethical.

Renate-Irene

Thanks -- I am very glad to know that!  I did not realize that

LesuhAn

@pt22064 another thoughtful response, thank you!

@ Renate, I thought you didn't realize that. ;)
