Life happens. Sometimes I take a break from work and try and squeeze in a 10 minute game. Sometimes my kiddo comes in or I get a work call or something comes up and I cannot complete the game. It never occurred to me to request a draw under these circumstances; I entered the game, so if I cannot finish it, I wouldn't expect to be allowed to draw. I resign if I can't finish.

However, I've seen several requests from players who, mid-game, say they have to run and request a draw. Is it a breach of etiquette to reject their offer? Is it a breach of etiquette for them to ask in the first place?

(I searches for this topic under etiquette and was surprised I could not find it; apologies if this has been previously addressed and I was just unable to find the conversation).

I think id reject the draw every single time, especially in a winning position, ofc in a losing position ill accept it, but i do think people like to lie, especially when they are losing. i do always offer a draw (If my elo loss is less than 4) if they make an obviouss mouseslip, i have had good experience with people accepting draws when i slipped.

Most people I've played don't offer draws.

no offense, but only good players do it. so like 1000+ and youll see respect between 2 players

I think it’s bad form to request a draw if you have to leave the game. But I play for fun, and when I receive such a request, I tend to accept just because it’s no fun winning in that circumstance. Exception if I’m really ahead, though. Truly chickens___ to request draw if you’re way behind and no hesitation in declining.

#1 YES. I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE DO THAT. Biggest jerk move of the century guys. Life tip. Unless they tell you they have to leave and they tell you in another language that you don’t know. Then it’s not your fault

Coincidentally I googled this topic after I had to leave a game and this active thread came up.
Even if they told me in a different language that they were leaving I would still accept the draw
