Etiquette and people abandoning rather than resigning

This seems to have got worse the last few weeks, and I’m seeing far more abandons from a losing position than before.

Maybe there should be a bigger penalty for rating for this?

Actually, I have experienced more disconnection issues recently, which is recorded as an abandonment.

I wish more time could be allotted to try to reconnect other than a minute. Because many times you don’t see it occurring right away.

Anyway, if this happens I usually send a message to the opponent with an apology.

However, I have been on the other end too, where players stall and then decide to quit without resigning and I agree that is poor sportsmanship.

But it’s the world we live in nowadays.

I just went QRR versus Q in an end game and my opponent immediately went on vacation for 25 days. That’s ok though. I can wait for him to behave like a proper chess player and either resign or lose, rather than a child.
