Only saintly and holy persons don't mind what others say of them (both in public and in private)! All others do mind - if not in public, then in private - waiting for the right moment to get back!

iFeather

You are delusional.

A-ha! Your comment shows that you do mind! Wink

iFeather

My previous statements stands.

Wow, iFeather! I can't believe you fell into that trap. That was a scholar's mate.

iFeather

I am unsure what I fell into. I am not sure how he made his statement there either.

Conflagration_Planet

Maybe you should just ask your opponents if they care.

Pretty much any response lead to the fall. Once you say 'I don't care what anyone thinks', responding to them is "falling" into the trap.

He made a statement about me?

Why should you care?

iFeather

It isn't a matter of caring. I'm indifferent to his opinions, but I will gladly post my own.

With the statement he made, he is clearly delusional.

You fell into a beginner's back rank mate. It doesn't matter does it ? I am sure that your game has improved a lot in the last three weeks or so. But I am not sure why u keep responding, it isn't a matter of INTERNET REPUTATION  is it ?

No. It was a scholar's mate I believe. Didn't I say my reputation on the INTERNET doesn't matter? Yeah, I did. I was simply looking for a concrete argument for the fun of it. Emotion isn't welcome here. He made a statement. He didn't have anything to back it.

And yeah. I study chess for six hours a day. I also play slowly now and think about my moves before I make them.

"I don't care about other's thoughts of me at all." Pretty much everything you say after that statement is meaningless. It is as though you erased everyone. It's like saying "I'm the only person who exists." Either you're lying, or you no longer exist for others.

iFeather

Okay. I like to know others' thoughts of me, but I mean that I am indifferent to them. And if someone puts me down, they need valid reason to. If they have that, then I accept it. And if I must clarify what I mean by that, I mean that it does not affect me emotionally. I will take things as they are only if they are.

And people still exist... they have other thoughts that I would like to know. There opinions of me do not matter.

I'm in agreement if someone puts me down, I'll question their reasons. But, I have as many different feelings for the many different opinions of people's thoughts of me. Indifference being one of many. I didn't mean to be too pushy with the "scholar's mate" thing, iFeatherSmile

You can refer to me as Feather =o. It was taken by someone else and I find the "i" less annoying than a series of numbers.

You aren't going to tell me that chessbase asks every GM for permission to post the games they played. Its preposterous. What if Carlsen said "I always want to be anonymous" - would we see large numbers of games played against a mysterious high rated NN? Of course not.

The logic seems to be that, since Tolstoy's novels are publicly available, we should not have a problem with someone publishing our personal emails.

huh?

Further proof that chess doesn't always demand skills in logic.

RC_Woods

As I said before: since all our games here are public anyway (anyone with an internet connection can check them out, and this we know in advance before we ever move a pawn) it would be very strange to take offense if an opponent publicly annotated a game we played with our name attached. It could be traced back anyway.

Personally I think the 'burden of proof' lies with those who say the name should be "NN", since the natural thing to do almost must be to just share information. Changing a name into NN is an act in itself after all, especially on chess.com where pgn's come with the names attached.

The argument that this view is equal to saying our private emails are public is complete nonsense. With email, the message is sent only to recipients chosen by the sender. With chess.com or FIDE the game is shared and public from the word go.
