Fischer never had pieces standing badly: he exchanged these.
Exchanging

In the popular Ruy Lopez Berlin, why white doesn't trade on Nc6?
That is because it is a waste of time. You must develop or castle while you have the chance, or else be doomed to fall behind. Personally, I reccomend O-O.

Missing an exchange when you should hurts. Exchanging pieces when you shouldn't hurts. Exchanging correctly is just right. Yea, that's my Goldilocks & the Three Bears summary. En serio though, excellent explanation, ChessMasteryOfficial. I myself am pretty good at exchanges but sometimes try to exchange too much. I'm learning.
Exchanging is perhaps the most important element in positional play. In many games we can see a whole variety of exchanging operations. But frequently an exchange changes the situation on the board in favour of one or other player. Recognizing such situations is the art of the positional player. It is amazing how many advantages you can acquire as a result of skillful exchanges.
Every exchange should be weighed up carefully. Perhaps it will be to the advantage of our opponent...
To understand this theme better, I would recommend that you study the games of grandmasters with their own annotations. Consider carefully why this or that exchange is played. Also take a really close look at your own games. Concentrate on the important moments at which exchanges were made and consider which side really benefited from these exchanges.
