Exchanging pieces when material behind

Does this move is a perfect blunder that when we are behind material we should not hand over our pieces. What should be the plan to save the game instead.

24...a5 offers more resistance than 24...Qd5, but the game is beyond salvation after 17...Qe7?

Do you mean I should try to put pressure on white queenside pawns.

When you are ahead, trade pieces if you want to get to an endgame with more pawns.

If you are behind, trade pawns to reduce the risk of them promoting.  It is a draw if they are ahead +3 but they are left with a king and knight (or bishop) and you just have a king.

(at least that is why the guy "Chess Vibes" says on youTube).

If the queens and rooks are off the board they K+7 should beat K+6.  If the pawns are traded off the K+Q+2R+P may not be able to beat K+Q+2R.
