Explanation of scoring

Hi,

I've been reading up on famous games recently; one thing that I would like explained to me is how does the scoring system work in matches.

For example, looking at a Wikipedia page, there is the description of a match between Capablanca and Alekhine, and it says that Alekhine eventually won "+6 -3 =25", what does this mean exactly? (Is it won 6, lost 3 drew 25?)

Thanks...

yes 6 wins 3 losses and 25 draws for Alekhine

World Championship 1927, right? I've been re-reading my book on that match recently. It's a wonderful book - it also includes the match against Lasker from 1921.

Thanks both.

Yep, that's right Ozzie. I've started reading up on Chess, seriously, and I've been advised to pick a GM (or two) and read as many games by them as possible, as it may help my game, so I've picked Capablanca, Tal & Fischer. Reading about these, though, has given me the idea to read up on Lasker & Geller also.
