Extreme Relaxation Before A Game
For one brief moment, I thought this might be an interesting conversation about tournament preparation.
Oh well.
I think you have it a little backwards. There are lots of meditative exercises in which you slowly scan your body to release physical tension and free up that wasted energy. The kind of relaxation induced however is the absolute antithesis of "zoned out on the couch in front of the tube". It is more akin to an animal on the hunt; supremely aware of your environment and ready to instantly respond. The classic example in the literature is of an Eskimo perched by a seal blowhole for hours on end waiting for the few seconds that the seal will appear and he can make his kill. I'm most familiar with the Taoist tradition but the concept is all over martial arts and yoga.
I wish to post this as a pool and see the results. However some people may think that is inappropriate. I am just curious about whether or not extreme relaxation of mind before a game helps the player to think more clearly. Or is it just an energy loss?
You know what they say, you should relax before making important decisions.
