Fasting and Chess

Do you know of any impact of fasting (in general and also in the context of Islamic tradition) on chess performance? It is known that fasting and other drastic changes in diet can have profound consequences for athletes? Since chess is widely considered and advertised as a kind of sport, it would be interesting to know opinion of chess players and people surrounding them about the topic.

Isn't chess a haram in Islam?

Around this time of year, my Muslim friend fasts from daybreak until nightfall, not even a sip of water. Us Christians stuff our faces with chocolate eggs instead. I know who's God I prefer.
