Fed up of disconnecting players, here is the solution.

So, I love playing chess and spend time to play as soon as I can. Sometimes it means I have only a few minutes then I play blitz my favorite. But the problem is that you get so many players that, when they start to loose or get stuck they just disconnect or don't play until their time is over.

I also disabled chat because people insult you or try to intimidate you, not fair I know but human being is like that.

So Mister Administrator of the chess.com here is the solution:
when a player disconnect it should give the right to the other user to drop the game and don't get penalized (game 0-0). I know it will not solve the problem of players willing to disconnect but at least it will stop to penalize the ones who are fair players. And if the disconnection was real then I am pretty sure that this price will be accepted by many users.

I see many profiles with the comment of other players with copy/paste of "this user has violated...and may be ...". I don't know what this means but I am pretty sure it is harmless.

So please consider this option, it starts to become really really annoying to loose time because of unfair players. We buy your service, you need to do something about it, at least giving option to the users who are willing to implement such rule.

Regards,

kleelof

How are you penalized when someone disconnects? You still get your point.

Your idea won't work. If someone is losing, they will just disconnect to avoid losing points.

Besides, when you set down to a 5/0 game, you have dedicated the next 10 minutes of your life to that game, so what's the big deal if you have to spend a few of those minutes waiting to collect your point?

I speak for myself, I play chess for the pleasure, not accumulating points or trying to reach a ranking. Also when you get into games of five or ten minutes and you get stuck several times on the evening playing I find that really annoying. Now I choose to resign when it goes over a minute because I don't want to get stuck one hour on my evening because of these unfair players. I can get my points back with other games.

You make a point with "Your idea won't work. If someone is losing, they will just disconnect to avoid losing points." however the problem is still there...

wow! you resign when your opponent disconnects, just so you dont wait. Never me! not even with 15/10

Yes, that's correct. There is no solution for it including crying about it in public forums.

He isn't crying about it. He is making a suggestion. Trying to help. It's completely different and worthy of respect, especially since his suggestion isn't all that bad at first glance.

if you resign, then you have basically lost your chance for earning more rating points.

If my opponent disconnects I go to the second screen of my browser and check memebase/9gag of something else that's funny. If they reconnect I get a sound notice and I can continue play. If they don't reconnect I win the game and had a fun 2 minutes.

With this proposal you increase your probabilities of getting disconnectors.

Now if they disconnect they will lose, and now, there´s the additional possibility to get their games canceled, so you are reinforcing the behaviour and maybe even getting new disconnectors.

Well, since you're a member, just start a new game while the old one expires.  You can, you know, play a bunch of games simultaneously.  Dur.

I actually just had this happen to me. Its Ridiculous! It said they may have abused the rules and they logged it in. But this clown offers me a draw when he is clearly playing poorly, and when i laugh and turn it down he just disconnects. And here I have to wait 5 minutes because I don't want it to negatively impact me. I came here to play on a break, not sit around because some guy can't stand staying under an 800 rating.

I think if you resign if some one disconnects, you may actually encourage generally people to disconnect if they are lossing.

kleelof

Yeah, it's annoying but it is an unfortunate reality of playing chess online.

MuhammadAreez10

If your opponent disconnects, can't you even wait two minutes to collect your point?

MuhammadAreez10

Kleelof, you could give him a few examples of what to do while waiting.

kleelof

Oh, I've done it so many times if these impatient guys don't get it, there's nothing more I can do.

MuhammadAreez10

Yea, I'm fed up of these complains.

If resigning is what you do magneit, you are actually encouraging them to disconnect!

Yeah. Nearly everyday there is someone on here crying about having to wait a few minutes to collect their win. It's almost like they don't understand the rules of chess or something.Laughing
