Another big tournament like Sinquefield and European Cup and Caruana could pass Carlsen on the live rating list.
FIDE Grand Prix - Baku 2014

I think Carjackin will take this.
Very unlikely.
No more unlikely than any of them winning, its all a crap shoot at this level. Caruana got lucky today...big blunder from Carjackin lol. The Gelfand game was cool too...sac'd a pawn against Andreiken and then proceeded to steamroll him.

Caruana makes his own luck.

I didn't go over Gelfand's game in depth but it's the kind of development that some people would call lucky- Grischuk lost on time in a drawn rook ending that still had a little bit of play left but was pretty close to the end. I don't call that luck (I know the other posters were talking about Caruana/Karjakin, I'm addressing something completely different). It underscores an often-forgotten truth: the clock is part of the game and time management counts. Grischuk, while a terrific player, didn't manage his time well and didn't deserve to draw.
I don't remember where I read this, but someone on a chess.com forum said that if Grischuk had spent his formative chess years at the Botvinnik school he wouldn't have this problem- The Patriarch would have prescribed him a strict regimen to eliminate all time trouble from his game, enabling him to reach even greater heights. Just goes to show how important discipline is at all levels. Grischuk found some nice moves but messed up on the clock, and now Gelfand is in the lead all alone (and he deserves to be IMO).
Starts tomorrow.
