So then, what do you think in general about the FIDE/Motiva partnership? good? bad?
I instinctively dislike it. Rationalising that, It's because it's due to greed on each side. FIDE gets money and Motiva gets the beginnings of an association of their business interest subject matter, not with vanity but with intellect. And if they are one of the more responsible participants in this industry, then it will help them because people will see that there are worse companies and better ones, and worse practitioners and better ones; and so it will improve the association of Motiva with a more intellectual and hence responsible approach. So it's very good business sense on their part. And I don't wish to support them because I see it not in the context of good and bad companies, which you're pushing, but in the context of an industry that's arguably greedy and irresponsible, taken as a whole.
Idk, I don't personally see the issue, more money for chess is good, and nothing from what I saw about Motiva online was bad, they seem like a stable and reliable company, even if as you say the industry they are in itself is bad. It's probably a better idea to seperate the argument of the implants industry having problems, and this deal separately.
In relation to the original article the OP posted about, i don't think it's misogynistic, but i guess we'll see how FIDE and Motiva move forward with the deal.
I agree with you that it isn't obviously misogynistic, because this part of the cosmetic surgery industry is directed at women but it's only one facet of an industry. I do, however, think that the dangers are deliberately covered up. I mean, in the 1920s, doctors were still prescribing smoking cigarettes for lung problems. It isn't as if people in general think very fast.

Right you just gave a good example, of doctors prescribing cigarettes. If people decided to boycott the medical industry because of this, who knows how much longer it would of taken for us to get to the same level of medical advancement we have now. Same thing for the implants industry.
There's a difference, you know. I'd much rather compare the implants industry with the gambling industry than with medicine. I was delivered by a doctor and my daughter in law is one. They have their uses.
Well ok, compare the implants industry with Lasik eye surgery industry. im sure it wasn't very reliable when it started out, but that doesn't mean you boycott it.
Compare it to any industry, this is just how society and technology improve, it always takes time for things to get to a level where they are useable on a global scale. some industries take longer than others.
There are more responsible and less responsible gambling companies but they all make their money by exploiting a very unhealthy addiction.
I've enjoyed talking to you but I need to get on with some work. I'm sorry you didn't get on with Eric2. Perhaps you'd like to continue this discussion at a later date but I've achieved nothing so far today, except to realise I like you and that I need to do other stuff. Thanks and have a nice evening.
No need for you to worry on that score. It's extremely high. I'm more concerned about your own motivations. Perhaps it's an area of interest for you because it inhabits the murky area on the borderline of gender issues, although I don't particularly see it as one. I do see women being exploited but I'd say it isn't because they're women so much as because they are easy targets in this context. A percentage of people will allow themselves to be persuaded to do something that is potentially extremely harmful to them. And I think maybe you're involved here because you're pushing against the barriers of what is allowable social intercourse here on Chess.com. I find you interesting and not unamenable to talk to. I'm not assuming anything about your being clever or not. Like I said, there are many motivations potentially at stake.
