No! No! Please! Take it away! I can't watch these post game interviews anymore! They're too painful!

Kudos to Magnus for just dismissing that last ridiculous question: If you weren't playing in the match, who's commentary would you enjoy watching?

Magnus' answer: Sorry, but I don't even remotely care......

Was that actually a question? Sheesh. I'm glad Magnus gave an honest answer. Hopefully it discourages future inane questions.

There was a question that was even more insane .

Yeah ... it's all kind of weird.

I think post-game interviews should focus on the moves of the game itself. I'd like to hear what the players thought during critical moments of the game. Anything else (like thoughts about the venue, or host-city, or the private bathroom or whatever) ... is really weird, and I don't think such questions should be asked.

They should let more qualified, intrepid adventurers conduct the interview, someone comes to mind know him very well..

I went to sleep after Nd3, so I was disappointed to wake up and find out the game only went another few moves.

Listen, the interviewers are in a no-win situation. The players literally don't want to say anything at all. They don't want to discuss what they were thinking because it might help the opponent. If they ask softball questions, we all just roll our eyes while they give generic answers, and if someone asks them a tough question, they get angry at the interviewer. All they want to do is go back to their rooms, have some food, relax for a tiny bit, then start prepping again. The only reason they are there for the interview is because they are contractually obligated.

Why don't YOU try to come up with a question that won't either get ignored or get you laughed at.

You have to admit, some questions are just plain ridiculous. I’d rather hear them all say ( like NFL player Marshawn Lynch) “I’m just here so I won’t get fined.”

Don't blame you, these games didn't excite me at all.

Can someone please explain to me why these games are a draw? Neither game has stalemate or threefold repetition

the first game had a repetition and the 2nd had a draw by agreement i believe

Presumably because they agree on the result.

I think Magnus has what it takes and definitely has more pressure.Last time I checked both games were a Draw.

@wits-end - those journalists are there because they want something quotable and they want to write a story. They have the power to put a positive spin on the events, or could write something boring and dry. The players should be mindful of that.

When Magnus says something like he doesn't even remotely care, he might make a few chess fans giggle, but he's probably upsetting the journalists, the sponsors, and he may even be offending the hosts. That's just not very smart.

What he should say is something like, "I really think that everyone is doing a great job and I'm so glad to see so much interest in chess. It would be difficult of me to pick a favorite because everyone has shown such a high degree of professionalism. We're counting on everyone who helps bring chess to our fans, and I'd like to thank all of you."

Was that hard? No. Was it truthful? Who cares. It makes those who cover chess happy, it makes the sponsors happy, and it makes the hosts happy. What's wrong with that?

Both ended in repetition...

Most interesting to me would be to have players over 2600 ask questions about moves, but only as long as those GMs didn't have any access to engines while watching the games.

In other words it's pretty boring to have questions only about the moves where the eval changed, and only asking about the moves the engines wanted.

I went to sleep because it was 5am, not because either game was boring.

AussieMatey

Both games ended in repetition - a Black Rook move.
