exactly India will host 1 of the best event and i am sure they will prepare the event giving 100% and make it one to be remembered

I think Carlsen has no proper choice now but to decline.

Chennai may be the best available venue, but FIDE corrupting its own process has to be challenged.

The word FIDE next to the word corrupting is just normal . Sure if Maggie wants to decline, then no problem, I'm sure Kramnik would like to play another match with Vishy.

I don't think he will decline.

That's when it would become very interesting -- seeing how many of the next-lower-seed players have the integrity to decline in sequence.

Kramnik had no problems playing the title match after losing the Candidates to Shirov when the latter got neither payment for Candidates (something the losing Kramnik got) nor match. He would naturally be just as eager to take Carlsen's spot, and Carlsen wouldn't gain anything by declining the match anyway. FIDE will still be as corrupt regardless if he plays or not, but if he plays and wins I think some FIDE guys will get nervous. Carlsen doesn't have the same attitude as for example Anand, who always has accepted anything FIDE has made to the World Championship cycles or matches.

I don't think there will be any scandals. The journalists are hungry for a sensation, that's all. Smile

Oh no! This can't be happening! Poor choice of Venue!

Come on, fair play!

Avatar of mychessapps

Hurray, can't wait to see the match in person!

However "confirmed" has a very different meaning in the FIDE handbook!

Lame.. Paris offers 1 million MORE, is a great venue, more popular than India, and would be great for the press.

I do not believe Anand should even be allowed to play chess in India, ever, and all of FIDE must always bow to the least of Magnus's whims, or else.

Who does Anand think he is? He must be stripped of the title imediately. Magnus should be awarded the title, preferably for life. Chess in India needs to be outlawed. Chennai should be placed under a no-fly zone. Sanctions must be imposed.

The sheer arrogance of allowing Anand to play in Chennai is breathtaking. Who has ever even heard of this little town? By what right do they play chess there?
