solving tactical puzzles daily, eating a healthy diet (should always be! :P ), going over my recent games to find errors that I might be able to note and fix before the tournament, brush up on end game technique (specifically common end games that you may not have encountered in awhile in your games), and deciding your openings/variations (going into the tournament knowing what you will play rather than deciding at the board) depending on how strong you are or knowledgable on the openings. Now would not be the time to learn a new opening or even variation in my opinion though!
Also remember to bring water, something not crunchy to snack on during/between games, and to go into it with a positive attitude and have fun. Worry about the results after the tournament, not during!
I have been playing and studying chess seriously for almost a year now and I think I might fit in the B class. I already think of myself as a decent player, who plays decent chess do I decided to sign up in a tournament. I am going to participate in a 9 round OTB tourney with a time control 90|30 in exactly one month.
Is there something you would advise me to prepare? Of course I don't want to learn long opening lines or something like that, just to stuff my mind with a bunch of possibly unnecessary things. I just want to know how did you prepare for your first tourney. Did you improve your endgame, did you do a lot of tactics??
