if neither shows up, it's a double DQ...this must have occured at some point in real matches. Do both players lose, are they penalized in some way? Or is it totally nullified and nothing happens?

i think not. for the people of his last ten years were his true and final friends. they would not sell bobby for cheap money.
he played chess..so he knew among which kind of people he could live among. the japanese and the scandavian.
no one in the chess press has been able to break into his last days.
because he had found true friends. a pawn wall...one that could not be broken.
