About a dozen years ago I offered free help only got a couple of bites--I guess because they did not know my real ratings and experience?

One of the reasons I am reluctant to play live online chess is because I don’t know if my opponent is getting coaching during our game. Isn’t that called cheating? I want to improve my game and I have no way of knowing who’s getting help on the other end!
