Why are you playing chess against bots ???

So i just played a Halloween bot and after the game, instead of seeing the cute Coach Summary ( number of brilliants, greats. excellents, misses), they replaced it with an ad for a crappy AI browser?!?!?

Ugh. I get it that the place needs to make money, and as a poor huddled mass who can't afford a membership, I'm no help.

But if they must advertise, why eliminate a nice touch??? i like those cute coach summaries, since i can't afford game reviews; surely there's room for both.

and if they must advertise, then.... Comet browser??? Really? Sheesh. I ran screaming from MS Edge to escape Copilot. who in their right mind would choose an AI browser without a gun to their head?

if you're going to force a browser ad down my throat, let it be a cool one, like LibreWolf or such. not $&@!?@& Perplexity!!

sorry. end of rant.

Well, I play a lot of bots, and I like it. Less elo anxiety, and one is able to play without a clock, something, frankly, impossible to do online with a human opponent.

Quit worrying about what other people do. People playing against bots or coaches or whatever is none of your business. Let folks have their fun.

I worry about my fellow chess human friends and I feel them. I see the destruction that the AI is causing to them and i wish them all the best and believe that every human being should have this feeling towards other beings.

As for you , I think you are not ok, I believe that you standing here for self-centeredness of others is a bad sign , probably a thought rooted in trauma after not being able to get satisfactory social relationships, and then isolation resentment and AI overusage caused damage to your thinking process. Don't let others shape your emotions. I wish you well, and I wish you a quick recovery.

And the same message is for you @BennyBlanco_Bronx , @Cythaera , @Qoiuoiuoiuoiu And @HonSec

Bots help you practice

Is it always like this here?

Playing bots is also practice only for playing bots. It won’t help you in games against humans.

The best computer training is playing the engine at full strength from set positions where you have an advantage.

i've beaten every bot rated under 2700 on challenge mode with no timer... at the lower levels it was just a simple matter of working on my technique, but after a certain point they stop making blunders & it begins to take more of an effort to outplay them.

it's definitely forced me to improve my game to keep up with the GM-level bots & i've gained a deep respect for rapid & effective piece development in particular, but after being eviscerated by tal bot (2705) a few hundred games in a row & barely scraping one draw i think i'll content myself with popping in every now & then to crush some of the monthly bots & return to my preferred training discipline of survival puzzle rush.

this 2850 was my best game rating on the journey. 🥷🏼

I do it for practice so my rating doesn’t go down, when there’s no Wi-Fi, and at 2:00 AM when NOBODY will be online.

Ok I'm proud of you, but for your own good I hope one day, sooner or later , you'll realize how much life time you could had spent on doing something more... constructive for yourself

Why wouldn't I play against bots?

@idrinkyourhealth3:

drinking is much worse for you than AI bots.

and these bots aren't AI. they're just compute engines with goofy prompts triggered by game milestones.

if they were AI, we'd be able to actually chat with them. Now THAT would be cool. and it's likely not hard. but you won't see it on this site. then no one would play against people anymore.

A bot is a nasty entity that won't give you anything except a placebo effect

I get your overall sentiment, but I'll have to disagree. To me, bots are excellent training and sparring partners.

They're great for testing lines against, and for exploring new ideas. They're also a good substitute when you want to play a chess game and don't have time for (or access to) live opponents.

I play against Chess.com bots daily - to try out ideas that I'm not yet ready to uncork in live games.

I view them as a fun tool for improvement.

The level of self lies in all you people is beyond my ability to even try to make a point about it. I think It is possible, but its just another level far from my expertise. I think 2-3 months of therapy will do it; Take baby steps first and then you'll draw a sane path for yourself, I believe in you and wish you a quick recovery
