Freedom is freedom to err?

When one has a space advantage they typically have more freedom, yet I personally find I make more mistakes with a space advantage than cramped, where it seems easier to coordinate, "do nothing", and prepare a punching out.  Does anyone else feel this way?  I'm looking at Karpov's games to obtain a better grasp over spatial dynamics and help forge in my mind that space advantage is called such for a reason.

I notice that whenever I assess a position I'll note who has more space but hardly factor it in for whom has the advantage.
