I can run Stockfish with Fritz right? I really did not like Arena. I guess you get what you pay for. :)
A reason to wait another month and a half would be to get longer access to the Let's Check database. Is it worth anything?

Yes, the Fritz GUI can run any UCI engines, as well as any other ChessBase engines.
Stockfish is a UCI (Universal Chess Interface).
Fritz 15 or Fritz 1, does it really matter? Either one or all between will beat 99.99% of all chess players.

Well Fritz 1 is DOS, so yeah, it does matter a little. The program still isn't half bad, though.
Engines are so powerful today that even top GMs don't need more than Stockfish.
The Fritz GUI interface however is very good once you learn it for analyzing games.
why buy it? you can get it cracked 3-4 weeks after release.
Sure, if you don't mind being a thief....
I have Fritz 13 and have simply never used it after getting Hiarcs.
The program is way too complex. Just importing a game or a position is a big deal on it, whereas with Hiarcs it's a matter of copy and paste like you do in any word processor.
Hiars also dosn't ask if you want a new variation, overwrite, or new line. It just does stuff without you having to think about it and you can always just stay on the game.
Then later if you want to change it just right click and promote your variation to a new line or whatever.
For me MUCH easier and I'm never aware that I'm working in a software perse, Fritz and Chessbase are constantly reminding me "hey you're working in Fritz (or Chessbase) now"
I find that the Fritz releases do not add much in way of added features. If the newest engine is 20 Elo pts higher then the last one, it means little to me and most.
The are no means inexpensive either, retailing for $80.00 or more.
I had hoped one day to see a new Chessmaster edition, but it doesn't look like that will ever happen, at least while UBI still has the rights to the game.
I have 13, I skipped 14 because the only change was the engine.... Hopefully this release will have more significant changes than strictly the engine. Updated interface, training modules etc. If not I'll just stick with 13 until more significant changes are made.... If 15 is just 13 with a new engine, then it's not worth buying. I already have Stockfish and I doubt the new engine will surpass that. Even if it does the extra few ELO is of no reall use to me.... Here's hoping the Fritz 15 is more than just an engine update.
I went from Fritz 6 to 13.
Didn't make any difference except I thought it sucked even worse after they decided to copy Microsoft and use that Ribbon thing.
I felt like it was going backwards.
In either case I don't see the point in upgrading even eve their engine went up 300 points.
I can use Stockfish all day long.
Plus Komodo just won the TCEC (Top Chess Engine Championship). I don't know if Fritz even came close.

With Hiarcs I can use as many engines as I can fit on my computer hard drive.
It's actually quite fun to sometimes analyze with much weaker engines.
I Miss the database commentaries in Fritz 7. (The ones that are now in Opening database and Megadatabase). Plus will miss the 1 year subscription in Fritz 12 that has been reduced to 6 months classic membership. Miss the Price of 60 bucks for the old fritz. New Fritz 15 is running around 90 bucks.

I was thinking of buying Deep Fritz 14 but then I saw on Wikipedia that Fritz 15 is coming out in November. Does anybody know anything about this release? Will it be worth waiting for or should I just buy it now?
From Wikipedia: "Fritz 15 switched to Vasik Rajlich's, Rybka engine.[10] The program is expected to be available on the ChessBase website in November 2015."
Also the next version is there just called Fritz 15 and not Deep Fritz 15.
Let's make this an expectation thread.
