Do you also have Fritz 12? If so, how do you compare the Fritz 13 GUI with the Fritz 12 GUI? Would your assessment also be the same for 12?
The reason why I'm asking is because I have Fritz 12 and it's okay... nothing to write home about. But I have not yet seen the Fritz 13 GUI.
Fritz GUI - I have to say it

I only have Fritz 12. I just find the GUI to be very bad looking. And although it 'works', it still has a sluggish feel to it. I can't quite explain what they're doing precisely, but it feels generic and lame, it's a miracle things actually work properly.
The 2D board, bitmaps pieces and such look good. No problems there, which is great because it's what I and many others use almost all of the time. But if you go to the 3D look, it precisely reflects the amatuerish feel of the entire interface. I don't use the 3D board nor would I want to, but I did want to see it 'for fun', and it looks terrible. The textures are bland and faded and low resolution, there's no Antialiasing that you can turn on, the models are of poor quality and the the animations are bad just to name a few things.
When you look at a Fritz GUI of just the main screen with a default 2D board, it looks 'OK', but once you start digging in the menus or going through databases, it feels all around amateurish and terrible.
Even little stuff, look at what I circled in red, shouldn't that be capitlized like everything else?

Only amateurs use 3d anyway.
It's not about if someone uses the 3d board or the 2d board, but its the idea that matters. Compare the 3D Fritz has to Chessmaster for example, Fritz looks TERRIBLE. The way it looks in 3D isn't what I'm primarly complaining about though, I just mentioned it because it's a clear example of something everyone can clearly see. I think it's a reflection of the amateurish feel of the entire application itself. The menu, database interface, and everything feels bad.
One feature I do like and think is very nice is how the board is in sync with videos, this is a very cool idea. But in general I dont' like it at all.

Chessmaster has a better 3d interface because, IMO, it is more geared toward the amateur crowd than is Fritz. I see your point but I feel like they probably spent only a little time on it because it isn't something their target demographic cares for.

I agree entirely. It's not like we're paying for the interface really, it's more about the engine but I still think they could have did a better job on the entire Fritz GUI. It really is a shame as it could be so much better.

Fritz 12 is a giant leap forward from previous incarnations. Chessmaster 10 is (was) aimed at a different target market. Earlier Chessmasters (like 8, which I have personal experience with) were horrible. All in all, I think Fritz 12 is fine. Compare it to a free GUI like Arena and it shines. Could it be better? Yes, I suppose. But designing a GUI is a tricky business. I think Fritz 12 gets the job done, and from what I hear, Fritz 13 is even better.
I've been using the Fritz GUI for a while now and one thing always comes up in my mind: It's terrible. It feels very amateurish. If anyone is familiar with programming, it feels like a student who just learned Visual Basic created the Fritz GUI. I know there are other options out there but Fritz is supposed to be the premier GUI and with such a reputation it should look extremely professional, sleak, and fast but it's far from any of this. Does anyone else feel the same way?
