Frustrated

Im stuck at a rating of about 950 and I cant seem to escape.  I study tactics, my particular opening and nothing seems to work.  There must be something that keeps me here.  Why not 1100?  Why not 1050?  Why 950?

Any suggestions?

Find a coach right here on chess.com! I am currently in the same sort of predicament and after a few lessons online i have a renewed sense of enthusiasm toward the game. It is relatively cheap and worth every cent.

There must be some very basic principles that I am not following that keeps me at 950.  I guess Im most currious at the equilibrium of it all.  I have settled at 950 in my 10 minute games.  I dont get better but I dont get worse.  Im playing 950 chess.  What do I need to do to play 1100 chess?

For example, here is a basic rule similar to what Im talking about.  Everytime my opponent captures a piece I should capture one back.  Seems simplistic but it guarantees even pieces entering the end game.  So never put yourself in a position where you cant capture back either immediately or near immediately.   Are there other rules of thumb that might help?

DON'T GIVE UP. It's normal to get stuck at a plateau around some rating level and then feel like you suck at chess and that you're a loser, etc. But just STICK WITH IT and it'll stick with you - one of the most important things I've learned from chess. Study chess books or do whatever you have to do to get better. It might take time. A lot of time. But you'll get there if you don't give up. :)

If you are 1500 turn based you shouldn't have a problem breaking  1000.
