Future of CC chess

There have been some threads lately about correspondence chess and that made me think of something.

How is the future of correspondence chess going to look like?

In my opinion I think it will be more divided in groups, for example, no assistance, only books and databases and then computer help.

The last one I really don't like because what's the fun in that?

CC Chess is great if you ask me and I hope to see it here on Chess.com for a long time to come!

What are your thoughts on CC Chess?

I think Online Chess here at Chess.com is going strong. Doubt it will be going away any time soon.

I believe there are lots of people who see its value as a learning tool.

I know there are those nay sayers who talk about cheating. But, really, I think most cheaters would rather play faster games where they can get rating points faster.

Besides, so what if a few people cheat? The vast majority don't. And, if you do lose to a cheater, so what? If you are using CC as a learning tool, then you will learn something.

I wish you had not made your question so open ended. There are many who don't 'get' this form of chess and they will be around soon talking shit about it.

Nice words kleelof, thanks for sharing

It seems that there are a lot of sincere people here on Chess.com that play CC Chess that won't cheat and are respectful of the opponent. That itself will make CC Chess here on Chess.com last for a long time to come I feel.

This space is echoing kleelof.

The only thing about it that's likely to change in the near future is its name here on chess.com (Online Chess).

I played a few correspondence games a couple of years ago against a friend, did poorly and dropped to 1045. I started again in January this year - issuing open challenges with a rating range, adjusting it periodically. I have managed to climb to 1459. I have played unaided by computer or text book. I'm not sure whether I can take encouragement or not from this, but I do seem to be faring better than in "live" 30 minute games.

I think that's great! Don't stop till you at least reach 2000, that seems totalt doable to me ^_^

CC with engine aid is a pure draw and such games are mostly boring (if both players agree, otherwise it is strictly forbidden. Opening book should always be allowed, I don't know why some of them aren't (chessbase, chessok).

So, only dividing them into "computer CC" and "normal CC" would be ok. CC without anything is basically really long LC game.

Online chess is chess.com. Without it, chess.com loses a lot.

My experience with unaided CC play is that the games vary widely in duration. Draws represent about 10 - 12%.
