Game 6

A recent game I played.

Some points:
  •  Don't get fixated with a single strategical element, but look at multiple elements so you can consider the best move. Here I got obsessed with the f5 pawn and its annexation of territory when there was no real need to do anything about it as it conferred some weaknesses to my opponent as well - specifically blocking in his Bishop.
  • Don't get obsessed with playing a certain move order if it isn't practical for the position. Thinking on the spot is much more important than memorising.
  • Mental toughness is important in chess. Chess is a battle!
  • Look out for tactics.
  • Try not to move pieces back to where they started from.

yes, 13......f6 was very bad.   Instead, Black needs to continue developing and putting pressure on the position with ....Rc8.   In some liines to follow up with ....Qc7.   If white guards pawn with f4, he has to be concerned about ......g5.    And if Nf3 then .....d4 and ....Bxf3 is in the works.

14 exf was better for White than 14 f4 -- which left White saddled with doubled pawns.

on move 21.......Ba6 is worth a look see, with possibility of .....Bd3.

It is always very hard and energy draining to wait for your opponent to continue adding to his positional advantage move by move, while having very limited counterplay.........you have to get this game out of your system !

13... Rc8 is interesting, though 14. c4 possibly blocks the file. In that case however dxc4 frees the Bishop. Interesting.

21... Ba6 was certainly better than what I played.

Yeah, I've only recently started playing OTB chess, and chess with a time limit over 15/10 for that matter, and there's certainly a greater psychological element. I'll just have to get used to it by playing more.
