Game abandonment versus resignation

I know that this point has been made over and over again  but, I am really fed up with players who abandon a game. I have NEVER  abandoned  a game. Even if I appear to be winning and for example, the phone rings or, I really need to leave the game, I ALWAYS resign. In my opinion, it's good manners and shows respect towards your opponent.

when I play with my cousin who alway beats me when I take out all his pieces except the king When he does not want to play anymore I was expecting it to say I won by Resignation but instead I won by Abandonment

Did anyone find an answer to this? I cannot find a definition on chess abandonment vs resignation. Anyone? Just curious.

abandonment is when they close the tab or leave the game, resignation is when they click resign
