A stalemate is simply a draw under the rules of chess. If you leave your opponent with no legal moves and he is not in check, the game is automatically declared a draw.
It is not a server abort.
If you learn to avoid it, it sounds like your rating will go way up.
You had plenty of time in this game and you missed at least several mates in 1.
