Technically basketball has its origin from a rock throwing game played by James Naismith, no joke. I think it was about knocking a small rock off of a bigger rock.
False.

Chess is not Indian, nor chinese, but it originated in India. The purpose of the forum was to discuss the origin.
Why stop in India? Why not go back to Senet? Why is it improbable that different forms of war games independently evolved into Chess as we know it today?
Because it makes sense to stop at the closest version. But you got a good point though
I don't know Senet. But i will look into it to see if it's a closest version than chaturanga. In that case we should stop in Egypt.

Now did you actually fact check that?

Because they didn't...
Yes they did. See how far that kind of debate goes?
That debate goes nowhere because it's an untrue statement.

i think the origin of basketball comes from farmers throwing fruits to the baskets all the way back to Neolithic
The dynamics of arching the throwing stone at the "duck rock” inspired James Naismith several years later to conceive the idea of arching a ball into a peach basket, thus inventing the game of basketball! ... Duck Balls – softball-sized balls used both for throwing and also as a target placed atop of the duck rock.
Why do you people donto read mine ?? NO medieval (Christian) Writers ever wrote that Chess take example fro chaturanga for the creation of chess. The CONCLUSION THEORY ( chaturanga is the origin of chess ) made by modern historian, which is untrue.
Please just stop this! It is wasting my time and giving me a headache! Please stop insulting people from India. This is not right. I may lodge a complaint with the administrators. The fact is that while there are those who wish to create the perception that Chess originated in either India or Persia, the truth is that Chess (modern chess) as it exists today originated in neither India nor Persia.
Other posts by trolls on this particular thread topic claiming that China is the origination point of Chess don't take this topic seriously and are simply trying to lead others astray.
There has been scholarly texts written about the true origins and development of modern chess. I would proffer that such scholarly works supported by painstaking research are far more reliable than any biased assessment given by anonymous posters online.
There are scholars who do say otherwise not only online posters so?
You know history is not sience it is Humanities, where are historicans arguing about theories.
History is science, that's the reason we use Carbon-14 to prove history.
Humanities are always full of lies.
Archologie is only one part of history and how exact are the methodes there?
wikipedia article of the history of chess.
The history of chess can be traced back nearly 1500 years, although the earliest origins are uncertain. The earliest predecessor of the game probably originated in India, before the 6th century AD. From India, the game spread to Persia. When the Arabs conquered Persia, chess was taken up by the Muslim world and subsequently spread to Southern Europe. In Europe, chess evolved into roughly its current form in the 15th century.
Can ou read the words "probally" and "uncertain"
Off course i read that. That's the reason i said chess could also come from Egypt
If you created something new, would you agree if someone tell you that your creation originated from other thing based on his conclusion/ idea because he saw similarity about your creation & the others creation ?
2 different people can have similar ideas in this world.

That's a good point. Every single invention is always based on a previous invention. The origin of the car is the wheel?
I think we should agree that the origin of an invention is that one where the invention is the closest one. Not where the composing parts were invented.
This way, we have the element squared board. We have the element figurines. But not any squared board with figurines can be the origin of chess, because chess is also composed of rules. We need to find an ancient game with rules close enough to chess.
Chess is the result of an evolution and is composed by several elements, in the same way a car is an evolution composed of several elements. Nobody will say that the car was invented in 3,500 B.C because that's when the wheel was invented.
We also have the fact that an invention comes from an inspiration. Where chess was inspired? The chain of inspiration leads towards Chaturanga (so far).
So, as a conclusion, the closest ancient game to chess is Chaturanga and this one inspired chess? if we agree on that, we have the origin.
But in the future archeologists could unbury another ancient game closest to chess and even older than Chaturanga, so there is always room for uncertainty. That's another reason wikipedia speaks using uncertain words.
Still you don`t read what I wrote before, pseuagro. Do any medieval historian ever write that chess related to chaturanga ?
The conclusion about chaturanga is chess made by modern historian who loves Indian culture. He loves reading Indian literature& all in sudden he found quotes about board games in Indian literature he been read... Then he came up with that genius conclusion of the origin of chess
N so as if someone try to make relation of chinese shogi to chess. Thats all fake, fake news

I don't think modern historians and modern archeologists confirmed chess comes from Chaturanga just because they like indian culture. Some could like it and others could not. Also western cultures are having a lot of chinese culture influence and they didn't place China as the place for the origin of chess.
Also modern historians are far more reliable than Medieval historians for whom almost everything was invented by god and comes from god.
And modern historians are based on archaeological discoveries and facts from a neutral point of view, plus they have much more scientific and logistical resources to compare those facts than medieval historians.
I made some research, and Senet can't be the origin of chess, so Egypt can't be the place of origin for chess. Because according to the rules Senet follows, it inspired Backgammon. Backgammon is the evolution of Senet.
According to this, and as far as archaeological discoveries have proved, Chaturanga is the best candidate for the origin of chess. Ergo, India is the place of origin (so far).

In my opinion, Chess was inspired by battlefield strategy boards, and previous board games. Since the direct lineage is unknown, emphatically trying to state which directly led to Chess, it is all conjecture. We know the lineage of the game Chess.
Once i read in the book "The immortal game" by David Shenk, that in middle ages chess was modified to be used as a battlefield simulator. But i never heard something being the reverse: never heard about battlefield simulators previous to chess that could have inspired chess.
Could have chess being inspired by previous board games? at least the chessboard could have being inspired by other squared boards from previous board games. But that's only one component of chess, we still need to know the inspiration for the rules, pieces... the closest game is chaturanga. Which game inspired the creation of Chaturanga i don't know. But if the game that inspired Chaturanga is totally different than chess, we still can consider Chaturanga as the origin of chess.
