At 1000, your only goal is to look for blunders and easy ways of taking pieces. Doing tactics for beginners would help you a lot.

I would also recommend looking at some basic model mates for beginners. Those are very easy mating patters that should help you a lot to see how pieces interact.

Model mates are positions where the only pieces on the board have something to do with the mate itself, so there are usually not too many pieces on the board.

I do not think that there is any one generally approved learning system. One view:

It might be of interest to look at the table of contents of A COMPLETE CHESS COURSE by Antonio Gude.

The best advice, but not practical for mamy online player just learning chess is to find a local chess club. There is a synergy about meeting and talking and playing over-the-board chess. You can get instant feedback from your opponent, shown basic pattern like KQ vs K, or KRR vs K, and KR vs K. The best part of all might be that a real person can show you some opening moves with explainations for every move, and how different opening effect the board, all the while being able to instantly know if the beginner understands the explaination, or needs a little bit more patience.

Also, a real person can ask the beginner questions like: "Why did you move that piece?", instead of just spitting out the best move from a chess engine.
