First chess pieces ever??

If chess was invented in Persia then look at The book of Games by Alphonso the wise.

There was also an object found in Algeria which was thought by the archeologists to be a chess piece and 5th c however there is no evidence to suggest that chess is any older that about the 10th or 11 centuries.

The so called Lewis chess men are more likely to be a Norwegian game called Hntaffl. Due to there being no convincing piece to represent the rook and so few pawns compared to the figures.
