Is this not even slightly infuriating to anyone?!

I have just started playing online chess after most of my life spent playing over the board, and using the internet literally only for tactics. I never really played online before because I had heard of the ability of engine users. However due to recent time consumers in my life, I joined here.

My question is why do people not resign in lost positions?! Even if there is not a slight chance of a win, I have played and seen games where people are down a whole rook (remember that a plus of a rook is enough to win the game) and they play on regardless! For example in a recent daily game of mine:

I had a rook, a queen, a bishop, and a knight against his lonely king and he didn't RESIGN! If this was over the board, you wouldn't do this, that's just a spite and bad sportsmanship. Does chess.com do anything against these time wasters? It is an insult to your opponent to do this!

you are so wrong here it's no even funny. as a chess player we have every right to make a move until we are in check mate or stale mate. playing on allows people the opportunity to capitalise on a blunder and if there is no blunder it allows the opportunity to learn how to close the game. it is you in the wrong here, not your opponent.

If they end losing, you win. If they don't, their attitude is proven correct. So, nothing to complain about.

Agreed, this is frustrating. All you can do is just play it out and beat them! happy.png Good luck!

Usually the behavior of resigning in lost positions is found among players rated around 1700+, these kind of players for the most part are not playing hoping for miracles, they train and study the game, and are disappointed right away when they get themselves in a losing position.  Players rated lower than that don't care much for whether they are losing or winning, they just play for fun, not to prove their skills level to themselves, that's why they play until you checkmate them or until one of the players runs out of time.  Sometimes age, and respect for the game plays a factor too.

Man I would love to be your drill sergeant.

Are you asking him to join your club Global Teens?

I mean this thing is going to be locked faster than a usual complaint about time wasters. A better question might be if you have read up on the legality of trolling/impersonating as a special forces solider. It is not funny.

Mate in one for me, and he just let his clock run down for more than 5 minutes.

Seems you just have to put up with it

I had a guy in lichess trying to let his almost 6 minutes on the clock run out on a losing position, I added a whole hour to his clock, he ended up making a move after he got tire of waiting for me to resign out of frustration,

doesn’t bother me.

well, you could try smoking a crate of Cuban cigars while you are waiting for the win.
