Because you played poorly.

Being low rated doesn't cause them to make bad moves. It's the other way around... making bad moves causes them to be low rated.

you hung your queen....  and missed checkmate......  lucky you werent up against a 1000 player...  but more seriously i have beaten players 200 points above me (occasionally) ....  it happens

With only a 100 rating point difference, the weaker player will still score about 1/3 against the stronger player...
