I tried reading books like you did. I found that playing and reviewing my games afterwards showed me where my mistakes were made.

my over the board rating is only 809 ( i know) i lost alot when i started a year ago. I read jeremy Silman's complete strategy book and of course got better but i saw alot of improvment by just playing a bunch recently. i played in a small tournament this saturday and beat 1100+ player, 1300+ player and someone my rating (young kid). i did loss to a 1400 guy which is expected. I guess my question is what improve your game
