First, consider buying a commercial database like Chessbase. My method is to play, then study my game to find what I did well and what I did poorly. Same for my opponent. You must always be able to learn from other players and games you did not play. Often I compare the opening I am looking at, mine or otherwise, play to master games. You must play a decent opening before worrying about anything else. A poor opening means you never get to use you tactics or endgame study. Sometimes I sort my instrutive games into a separate database. If I practice tactics I only do so for about 30 minutes because I get tired and stop doing well. I NEED to study endgames. Middlegames are studied similarly. I look at a ton of Grandmaster games in the openings I play, but the whole game. Study sessions are always brief however. More productive if I know what I am planning to study. At this point in my chess growth I probably still change openings too much.
