Getting tactic rating 2400 back

Sort:

It was a pain when they introduced the new tactic rating system in last year where people were forced to solve most tactics within average time of 10 to 15 seconds. (average time for some hard puzzle is longer than 2 mins though). With new nullsystem, my tactics rating dropped from 2400 to 2200 and I have been struggling with that rating for long time. The reason was that whenever I pass the puzzle with slow time, I get 1-3 points, but if I fail , I lose 10-12 points . And as a free member, I have only 5 free puzzles per day and one puzzle error is enough to drop back the rating of 4 correct puzzles. I have to choose two ways

1. Play fast (to get more points)

2. Play slow (less points but must correct)

I play fast on only few puzzles have familiarized patterns otherwise I choose the second method. Getting 1 point is ok but must not lose point. With that strategy, I get back to my 2400 rating.

Hope that strategy help to others who want higher tactic rating.

I put the link of my last puzzle where people complaints  how you can easily lose your point.

Yes, you definitely have the correct strategy.

Too often the time window is too short.

I find it best to forget about the time aspect altogether & just concentrate on getting it right.

The whole point of tactics training, is Patton recognition, not the points............ just saying.

You should get better rating to access/ play higher rated puzzles! <2000 puzzles are quite similar to daily puzzles, very boring!null

Today free puzzles were over, passed a 2600+, failed one 2800+ puzzle. My target is to play 3000+ puzzles. I may reach or not may not, i dont care, but it is my dream.

+1 , is still better than getting wrong, at least for moral purpose. First time all green record. grin.png

I am only 2000 points behind you...

Struggling a lot to maintain 2400+ tactics rating now. sad.png

But still my plan with " Correct Technique first, speed later " still work for me. I am thinking all tactics without caring clock!! Today back to 2400+ in both sites.

First, I thought a lichess tactics rating of 2300/2400 was equal to 2100/2200 chess.com. I tried lichess tactics but they never seemed to get hard so I thought: "I have diamond chess.com, why do lichess?". Next, if you want to do a lot of chess.com puzzles, (I am not recommending the following, I am just pointing the flaw out) I think using a bunch of private windows works. Of course, If you really want to get better at tactics, just get gold star which gives you enough tactics per day and is as cheap as netflix.

chess.com has very limited pool of puzzles since 10 years ago, only 60,000 .If you keep playing puzzles with diamond account, you will tons of repetition  with those puzzles within a few years and your rating will be sky high!

P.S 60,000 means all puzzles in all categories. So there may be

20,000  puzzles <1000 rated

20,000 puzzles 1000-2000

20,000 puzzles >2000

1. Ra1 Ba4 (or lose the Queen)

2. Rb8+ Kh7

3. Qf5++ winning.

Time taken , about 3 mins.

Edit, That answer was wrong, recalculating, lol.

1. Nc6

(1.....Qa4  2. Rf1)

(1. ...Rxc6 2. Rf1)

(1.....Bxc6  2. Rb8+)

Time taken about 6-7 mins, lol

Hehehe...yeah that was more of a 3400 elo puzzle...I think it was mate in 22. The answer is Rdd3. Black will be wipeout with the attack of Rb8 followed by Rdb3. I had picked Rf1, which all I knew looked threatening.

It is the first time Ive seen that takes advantage of the pruning 'improvement'.  Engine nailed it right away, although the eval was 'only' +10 at low depth.

Hit back again to 2400+ tactics rating! I feel that getting 2400+ tactics in here is harder than getting 2000+ in bullet/blitz. ( I  get only 5 free per day, and if I did 2 out of 5 wrong, I am pretty messed up. sad.png)

I’m at 2232, but i was able to solve the first one

ChessianHorse
To me, 2400 tactic rating is easier than 2000 blitz

Wow, the first time I solved 2800+ puzzle, I think. Target time, 1:20 minute is crazy, took me about 15 minutes.

My goal of 2500+ tactics rating is closer, I am excited, hehe.

You need to study some real tactics there...not jokerville tactics.

Here Im playing black and just moved e5. Now its your turn to win the game. Rating estimate: 3600+.

I would try

1. Bb6 Qxb6

2. Nxd5 Nxd5

3. Qxd5 White gain one centre pawn, other than that, I dont see any other better forced move!
