Yeah,I know there were some zillion posts on gg but Is gg = Rub It In? It has that flavor! I never use it myself but if somebody wins and says gg it feels like I'm being rubbed! LOL!
Rubbed the right way or the wrong way?

Its a gesture of sportsmanship. Dont over analyze it.
These are chess players you're talking to here.
I prefer it when my opponents say gg after a game, its courteous. Doesn't matter that much either way though.
If you can't say "interesting game" and maybe say something about it (if it's worth discussing, obviously) then you might aswell not bother with an inspid "gg". It doesn't mean anything, like for instance saying RIP when someone dies. Words lose their meaning when banally abused all the time. It's a gg but it's not a great game really, you don't mean it most of the time, just hollow courtesy. No thanks.
They're just trying to be polite. That's what decent people do.What is wrong with you?
I think thanking people for playing is only good manners. To me on here 'gg' is the substitute for a handshake after a game. I usually say 'thanks for the game' if I don't make more of a comment, and I appreciate it when people are polite. Having said that, if I'm playing blitz and people don't say anything, I am not offended. I do consider it a bit rude to disable chat before the game is even started, but people can do what they want.
If I was playing OTB and my opponent got up and walked away without a word or a handshake I would not be eager to play that person again.
Once a guy wrote "gg" after I mouse-blundered a knight on move 3 or 4... it's my fault and all, but that made me real nervous to say the least ;-) ah ah
I also do like to say gg after every game and also like it when my opponent says it. Propetual check should also not be taken offensivly and neither should be a win on time or a stail mate. They are just doing whatis best for them usualy with no foul intention. That doesnt mean they are a "prick" which i have been called several times for wining on time or draw by propetual check, it just means they have done whatwas best for the game.

And if I were playing OTB and my opponent shouted obscenities at me for 10 minutes I would similarly not be eager to play that person again.
In real life people chat to have a conversation. During online chess chat is used by one of two people. Super-casuals who are as interested in hearing about your cat as they are in playing chess, and the 2nd kind which I mention in the beginning.
There's really no reason not to disable chat.

Its a very simple answer to this question. People choose to be rude online because of the annonymity of the internet. Play someone in person, and you dont get the rediculousness you get online.

i thought about it when i first joined because of the volume of people saying obscenitys. Other than that you are right, there is no real reason for disabling chat and i do consider it rude to disable it. I think less people would disable it if there was a option to add a filter.
I say "gg" when it really was a good game, especially when the opponent puts up a good struggle to the end. Unless the opponent was being rude, I like to say "gg" as a sort of "congrats for beating me" thing. Probably just me though.
gg is a slap in the face, an affront to your dignity. It cannot be tolerated under any circumstances. What kind of hooligan would resort to such rubbish??
