Great Idea. But the main problem with becoming a Titled player is playing against other titled players. You can't become a GM if you don't at least play any in tournaments or norms. The minimum requirement for a GM norm is about 6.5 out of 9. The only tournament on live up to date that catures to 9 games is Bullet Chess or Online. For FIDE to even grant the luxury of a private norm there would have to be a tournament director/fide arbiter. The arbiter's job also is to monitor the Players to make sure everything is going by the book. The likely hood that Chess.com will get involved with FIDE is slim. But Chess.com could have their own standard USCF or FIDE regulated title system such as Master, Candidate, Master, National Master, International Master, Grand Master, World Championship Class. These should only be granted through tournaments because achieving points off of random people in seeks is somewhat stupid to me. But being able to play good competition in the tournaments with you at least knowing what you're getting is more appropiate to me. But anyway Great Idea!
GM like titles from Chess.com
No one even mentioned what others thought let alone a titled player. The only way for now is to just do the FIDE norms over the board. Otherwise it would be commendable by Chess.com to award their players for good, hard work. Otherwise, there is no point. They won't mean anything to anybody except yourself.
Hi Friends.
I have always wonderd as to how it would be if there is national-master, grand-master, 'chesscom-master' , or similar titles from chess.com. I think chess.com should think about this idea of mine and start giving titles to players who play regularly. For achieving all, this chess.com can decide the rules & regulations.
I think that would make chess.com much more attractive. Already chess.com is the best chess-site. If it will start such titles then it will help players to regularly assess as to where they stand at a point of time. Also, since people like me who cannot afford to invest money for chess would be able to play for GM and like titles by sitting at home. At present I am 50 years old. I still dream of a GM title.
What if it is 'private' instead of not directly given by FIDE ? After all since we can have such 'private' titles based on FIDE norms, it would be as if it is given by FIDE. Also, if need be then FIDE's permission could also be taken. All legal processes will be / should be honored.
I may not have put my idea in sufficiently proper manner, but I hope it will make some sense atleast as far as chess-life on the net is concerned.
Thanks a lot.
Regards.
