Go VS Chess

An epiphany:

When one plays a game of Go, he is like a god who creates a world in the vast expanse that is the 19x19 board. Each stone is like an atom, or a unicelluar organism, or a star, or an angel created to establish a dominion in this universe, while his opponent, an inventor of evil and opposition counters his great plans. As individual things evolve into greater beings, good and evil begin to clash and fight for dominion over the universe. Worlds are destroyed and stars fade like candles after a strong gust of wind passes by. Unfortunate creatures become victims of swords and scythes and the elements perish in fire. The war is great, and there will be only one victor.

I think it's simply amazing how akin playing Go is to, essentially, being a god.

I have included a paste from one of the sites with very very strong players from mainland China.  Enjoy.  And no the file editor on implementing documents on this site(chess.com), sucks, so here is the link:

Thank you, Vulpes_Vulpes for the link.

For what it's worth, there is no Go computer program that can beat a good human player.

well it depends what do you mean with "good human", there are awesome programs runned in supercomputers and they are very strong, some programs like Zen19 are stronger than me for example (im strong kyu player), its a frogram with new technologies who can defeat low dan players, but anyway its very far from getting chances against a "low dan pro" (there are diferent Dan lvl, amateur and pro, 1p (dan pro) is kind 3 stones stronger than 7d (dan amateur)

What kyu are you, Arcades?

VULPES_VULPES

kyu-t xDD wow thats cute jaja, kyu (if other ppl doesnt know) is a way to register players lvl as ELO in chess, there are 30 lvl kuy (the lower k, the stronger player) after 1k comes 1d, then 2d untill 7d, but pros has 1p (s = Dan Pro) untill 9p

maybe we can translae kuy as "aprentice lvl" and dan as "master lvl", when you improve you become less a simple aprentice and become more a mster :)

san-kyu...san-kyu very much! I played at some Japanese clubs decades ago  and got to 5 kyu. I have not played in 20 years though. Good luck!

ArcadesGriffith

o.o 5k is a nice lvl, those players have a nice style, before 7k evryone plays too messy, someday i will play as dan players, i rly wnt it :DD

Jimmykay

I am not able to play at 5-kyu level at all any more! That was decades ago. Now, I only play with my son, age 7, who like Go more that chess.

The only reason I stopped playing Go was that I hated the smoke-filled rooms of the Go clubs in Japan. I could not breath!

I still remember getting whooped with 9-moku odds by even 3-kyuu players...that is the great thing about Go(In Japanese, people still say Igo)...odds are still very much given amongst amateurs, whereas those days are long gone in chess.

LOL I know some Go terminology, since I read the manga Hikaru no Go.

Maybe they should make one called Hikaru no Chess, following the games of Nakamura.
