Goal of blitz and bullet: win on time or mate??

Aim is mate, unless u get into a time scramble, then it depends on wether u have more time or mating chances, but both are wins so who cares

IMHO, playing to win on time takes the joy out of chess...it becomes more of a time scramble to play a move even it’s no good or BAD MOVE!. Speed chess...grr...but I’ve seen some players make really good moves and mate in 5 minutes on many games more so than winning on time.

Cat dog orb, how can the weaker player win a blitz game? Unless, the “stronger player” spends too much time analyzing moves. If a “weaker player” wins a game that’s because he spends less time analyzing and chooses better moves/variations in less time, hence he’s the stronger player. I think some players make a stupid move in rather than lose time.

Post #3 said it well, but I'd put even more emphasis on mate than they did. If you are clicking pieces around randomly for the sole purpose of winning on time, then you should seriously consider quitting chess - or at least play longer time controls. I mainly use chess.com for blitz, because of people letting the time run out - but in ANY time control mate is the goal, and time is a factor. A time scramble is of course still a win; however, this should never be your goal prior to the start of the game; time scrambles only come up if the opponent allows their time to get too low. Most experienced bullet/blitz players are well trained in speed pressure from time and will often times still find mate even under quicker controls. If you do not see yourself doing this too, switch to a time control more comfortable for your current play speed. Mate is the general goal of chess - anything else to win is a possibility ONLY IF your chances for mate fail.
