Nothing wrong with it, and it shouldn't matter whether it's obvious to him or not - most times you should assume your opponent can see what you're trying to do. But you need to plan on the basis that he will defend competently and see if you will come out of it OK in the end.
Sometimes this won't be possible; the tactics will be too deep to see through. In that case, you need to decide whether the position that's going to arise will be one that you think you can handle better than your opponent, and if so, go for it.
Also, direct threats are a good way of sustaining pressure if you have an existing advantage. Harry your opponent! Hector him, harrass him, and make him dance to your tune whether he likes it or not. If nothing else, a vigorous attack may lead him to crack under the strain - whereas if you don't take the chance when it's offered, you may let him off the hook altogether.
The more practice you get with spotting mating patterns, the easier they become to see, and in the long run this will serve you well. :)
Everytime I see a easy checkmate or where my oppenent is most valurnable I attack there right on the spot! But its obvious and he can see it to, but that spot where I'm atking is so weak I can't help but want to attack him there... Sometimes I lose and sometimes I win.
So do you guys think its a good or bad thing to go after the obvious checkmate? Or do you plan so hard your brains splat out of your nostrils when you attack for a checkmate?
