Going from classical 2000 to 2200

At one point I managed to push my classical rating to just over 2100.  I'd like to know from other strong players what steps they took to take that final step of crossing over 2200.  Is it a matter of constantly improving my ability to calculate and do tactics?  Or should I do a serious mix of tactics, openings and tactics.  To be honest I've gotten many different answers from different people.  Our newest local NM total me that maybe I should just focus on piling through lots of different positional books.
What are the stronger player's opinions on this matter?

I was referring to Mahan, he has the rating of 2200, just doesn't have the norms but it is pretty much a forgone conclusion
