Well, I think it was purchased at a bankruptcy auction so they may have had other problems.
Good bye chess.com

I do lessons with my teacher online weekly: we analyze games together. The shared analysis mode in v3 Live Chess constantly loses our notes, resets our position in the game, only allows one of us to make moves but not the other, etc, etc. It is buggy to the point that we are likely to go elsewhere.
I write a blog on chess.com (adding a little value to their site, I would think). The interface to add a game to the blog in v3 is dysfunctional on my laptop; the screen size is messed up and sometimes you can't reach the "insert" button as it's off the bottom. And forget about adding comments and variations gracefully. Luckily I do most of that in an offline .pgn editor, because the interface for it here doesn't work for me at all.
Information I used to rely on (such as "how much vacation time has my would-be Daily opponent used?") is now nowhere to be found.
It's kind of a mess, and at this point I doubt that will change. It's not affecting chess.com's bottom line enough.

There are a lot of these forums on the site it seems. And on at least one of them - we're not supposed to say how great V3 is. So I'm going to put it this way. A lot of the people who leave after V2 dies - probably next month - that's October 2017 - will turn out to be non-paying members. And a lot of them will come back. In a few whatever. Months or weeks or days. Or "leaving" could simply mean logging off overnight ...

98% , not 97 not 99 so no ambiguity , but im sceptical , mind you i live in a world where my energy company announces record profits reduced costs but sadly higher bills to come

Good bye chess.com the site I know for more than 19 years...
Once you logon you will find this message:
Hello playing 4 change....
This version of Chess.com (V2) will be shutting down on September 30th. 98% of our members are using the new site and we need to focus on one platform for the future. We hope the new Chess.com (V3) will continue to be your chess home. We appreciate your feedback and have worked hard to address many of the issues you have shared. Please consider taking this short survey to help us solve the remaining issues you may have with the new site.
Sincerely, the Chess.com Team
Are you really leaving this time Storm. Your a bit dramatic but you have been cool. BTW your about 7 years off on your time here. You know you'll be back be sure to message me when you return as there is no site out there that has everything we have here. V3 is fine bite the bullet and just learn to use to. So when you return just message me and I'll help you out to get used to it Cheers Be kool

V3 will be much better. chess.com has modernized. They need to focus on the future, not coddle the people who do not like change. Every app/website is starting to shape itself in the way V3 has. It is more efficient and far more updated. If you cannot handle change then I am sorry for you as you will have a tough life.

the next few months will show clearly whether cc have got it right with v3 , many are experiencing issues as mobile phone userts , numbers we see and what cc actually see will make it clear whether a v4 will be needed , i hope not too much faffing about ,
in the meantime cc esp staff in forum could be helpful by giving links , problem solving etc re the changeover that is causing issues for its users

Anyone know the reasoning behind the change? I don't mean the supposed 98% of users are using V3. I mean why the change period?
From what I understand, they had to make something new (v3) in order to keep up with the advances in software and technology. And it's not easy to maintain two different versions.

The most depressing thing is that it doesn't seem to get any better, so this is probably it. Been complaining for years that V3 is poor on mobile platforms, regardless of whether you use the desktop version in browser. Slow to load, clunky, full of stupid symbols for in-game options instead of clear words like 'offer draw' etc. And why do we need browser extensions to use the customization options, only available on a pc? It was all contained in V2. In short, a backward step.

My mobile has absolutely no chance of working with v3. A disaster.
One question, if 80% of the users hate v3, why change, dear chess.com ?
I hated V3 at first but now think it's much better than V2. Nayknight will be here to say "bye" to you, if he hasn't already.

"Goodbye, cruel site! I'm leaving forever because I don't like the latest free update to your free service."
Seriously? Have a tissue!
I'm a freeloader myself, and there are several things I don't find to my liking here. But it's still a great bargain at the price, & I'm grateful for the place to play for free. I hope it will be able to continue to operate after this devastating loss.
Yeah, I've read erik's history (or histories since they have been posted more than once) of the site and some technical things that were written. The software was Chess Mentor
